Siddhānta — the chart unfolding
T he birth chart is a seed — the whole tree is in it, but it opens in time. The West watches that opening through the progressed horoscope, and it rests on a strange, beautiful rule: one day of sky after birth stands for one year of life. The positions on the day you were three days old describe your third year; on the thirtieth day, your thirtieth year. The planets barely move — but the slow drift is the very picture of a character ripening.
This is why the old motto reads character is destiny. A progression predicts no outward event; it shows the season a nature is passing through — what is ripening in you, what is being asked. The fastest-moving body carries the timing: the progressed Moon, which changes sign roughly every two and a half years, each sign a distinct chapter of feeling.
The Moon is only the fastest hand of the clock, not the whole of it. The progressed Sun creeps about a degree a year — changing sign roughly every thirty years — and marks the long chapters of identity, a real landmark each time it crosses into a new sign. Mercury, Venus and Mars move just enough to form fresh perfecting aspects to the birth chart — the particular conversations coming to a head in a given year — while Jupiter outward barely stir at all. So the Moon gives the season, the Sun the decade, and the inner planets the year's own business; the live reading below weaves all of them, not the Moon alone.
A progression is the symbolic inner unfolding of your own chart; a transit is the real planet in today's sky touching it from outside. This lesson reads the first; the live card below adds the slow transits of Jupiter and Saturn as the outer weather over the inner season.
Abhyāsa — the twelve seasons of the Moon
Only two progressed bodies change sign often enough within a life to mark a chapter: the Moon, about every two and a half years, colouring the feeling life; and the Sun, roughly every thirty years, turning the whole sense of identity. (The rest move too slowly to change sign — they speak through the aspects they perfect.) Choose a body, then a sign.

Think back two or three years, to the last season your progressed Moon was in. Did its chapter of feeling match what those years asked of you? Write what you notice.
Not a fate — a ripening.
The progressed chart never names an event. It names the season a nature is in — what is opening, what is being tested, what wants tending — and leaves the living of it to you. That is the whole meaning of character is destiny: the sky does not decide your years; it describes the you that is meeting them. Read the season, and you meet it awake.
“The stars incline; they do not compel.”
