The Doctrine — the angle brought to a head

A n aspect is simply the angle between two lights — and the whole art of prediction turns on watching those angles change. As the chart progresses day-for-a-year, its planets slowly re-aim at one another and at the fixed points of birth. Each time a moving planet closes to within orb of an exact angle, a conversation between two principles is brought to a head.

The progressed planets speak two ways. They meet the fixed radical chart — a progressed planet closing on a natal one (progressed → radix) — touching a standing matter of the life. And they meet each other — progressed planet to progressed planet (progressed → progressed, or mutual) — the inner faculties maturing into a new relation. To read the year in full is to hold both webs at once.

Every contact applies, then separates. While the angle is still closing toward exact it is applying — the season gathering; once past exact it separates, the matter fading. The tighter the orb, the riper the moment. And the aspect's nature sets the tone: the conjunction fuses, the trine and sextile flow, the square and opposition press for work.

A caveat worth keeping

A progressed aspect marks a tendency ripening — a contact the inner life is bringing to a head, to meet consciously — never a dated event or a fate to await. Read the applying ones as seasons gathering, each paired with its handle.

The progressed Moon names the mood; the lunation phase names what a decade is for; the progressed aspects name the particular conversations coming to a head within them. Held together, they read like a living web — the fixed promise of birth, and the slow hands moving across it, tightening here, loosening there. Read the applying aspects first: they are where the year is asking to be met.
